The Red Stone Forest National Geopark in Xiangxi
The Red Stone Forest National Geopark is located in Guzhang County of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, and the area of the center view is about 20 square kilometers. The Red Stone Forest National Geopark is comprised of the Red Stone Forest Karst Landform Scenic, Gorge Scenic Area, underground rivers, lakes, waterfalls and cave scenic spot. It includes the stone forest, peak cluster, stone pillars, rivers, lakes, underground rivers, waterfalls, caves, standard geological section fossil and so on, which constitutes the multifarious, colorful, structured, spectacular and beautiful landscape. Zhangjiajie is about 120 km distance away from The Red Stone Forest scenic area.
In the red stone forest, we can see many fossils in everywhere. They are in different poses and true to life. These fossils in the past are the corner stone, which also known as “pagoda stone” or “the Chinese corner stone”.
The red stone forest area is a piece of history, but also is a cultural soil. Although there is no famous historical sites, culture is still deeply imbued with the mountains and rivers here. As the Tujia settlements, the red stone forest area still preserves Maogusi, Baishou dance, The Nuo opera and lanterns as a representative of the Tujia drama.
