Badagong Mountain Nature Reserve
Badagong Mountain Nature Reserve is located in Wulingyuan District, Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province. It covers an area of 20000 hectares. In 1986, the State Council approved the establishment, and the main target for the protection is the subtropical forest vegetation and rare animals and plants. Badagong Mountain has complex terrain, mild climate, abundant rainfall and its mountains and rivers crisscross. Because of the small effect of glaciers and little damage in history, so Badagong Mountain distributes the typical subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest. Badagong Mountain Nature Reserve preserves many kinds of animals and plants; there are more than 3000 types of plants. In particular, the mixed forest with a main of Chinese dove trees, formed a rare plant communities.
Badagong Mountain is situated on the edge of Sanzhi County in the Hunan-Hubei border region. Geographical coordinates is east longitude 109 ° 41 ‘- 110 ° 09′ 50 “45″, northern latitude 39 ° 29 ’18 “- 49 ° 29′ 48″. Its total area is about 20000 hectares. And it belongs to the forest ecological nature reserve.
In 1982, The People’s Government of Hunan Province approved the establishment of Badagong Mountain Nature Reserve. In 1986, the State Council approved that Badagong Mountain is the first batch of “National Nature reserve” of China. In 1990 people’s government in Zhangjiajie approved the establishment of “Hunan Badagong Mountain National Nature Reserve administration (which has the office, the finance department, department of public security, fire department, resource protection department, Tian Ping mountain station, Nanmu Ping checkpoints, pest control and quarantine station, Tian Ping mountain Forest Station, scientific research institute, the police station and other department)”.
Badagong Mountain also riches in tourism resources, and is the main scenic spots of ecological tourism in Zhangjiajie. Coming into the woods, you will feel that you enter a majestic magic geographic treasure, and walk into a fantastic landscape. It has both a chain of forest, rolling hills, different waterfalls, mysterious caves and sunrise, rain, fog, Cloud Mountains, sunset, snow and other meteorological landscape, and it also has a live animal and plant landscape.
Badagong Mountain Nature Reserve is known as the “natural museum” and “species gene pool” by domestic and foreign experts and scholars, and is the most complete preservation of subtropical region and one of the largest areas of evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest.
Plant species of Badagong Mountain Nature Reserve amounts to more than 3000 and woody plants have 93 families 285 genera 700 species. Among them, the rare and endangered plants have 28 species, and one to three grade protected plants 54 species. And there are more than 1000 kinds of medicinal plants, more than 18 millennial old trees, more than 180 species of rare flowers and more than 100 kinds of wild fruit. The area has complete forest ecosystem integrity, the flora is ancient endemic to China, also has the modern community composition and rich animal and plant resources. Due to the complex topography, humid climate, good vegetation, advantageous wild animal breeding conditions, they initially identified, Badagong Mountain Nature Reserve has many rare animals.
The ecological tourism of Badagong Mountain is an important part of Zhangjiajie tourism. It not only has high ornamental value, but also has important research value.
