The Southern Great Wall of Fenghuang is most located in Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Xiangxi, Hunan province. The Southern Great Wall was built in Jiajing thirty-three years of the Ming, lasting more than sixty years, and it was complete Tianqi three years of the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1554 — A.D. 1622). The Southern Great Wall stretches from Tingziguan of Tongren City of Guizhou province to Jishou City in Xiangxi. It is known as the “ten thousand miles of Miao Territory “. The wall is 382 mile in length and is one of the hugest ancient buildings in China.
The main objective of building south of The Southern Great Wall is to prevent Miao people uprising, so the wall have camps, borders and checkpoints every three five miles such as Alaguan, Jingbianguan, Tingziguan and other famous checkpoints. Although these checkpoints are now damaged, we can faintly see some pillboxes, forts and side walls.
The establishment of The Southern Great Wall separated the south from the north of Miao Territory in Xiangxi. People provided for Miao nationality and Han nationality are not allowed to contact and prohibited commercial trade and cultural exchanges of these two nationality.
Today, after hundreds of years, this side wall of Miao Territory which has slept in the history finally brushed the dust and demonstrated in front of the world once again.
